DESCRIPTION : Here is an uncommon mid 19th century Victorian Minton porcelain cup and saucer hand painted with birds and enamel decoration. The cup is decorated with a celeste blue enamelled band and hand painted with a bird to each side with raised Greek key gilding to the top rim of the cup with another raised gilt pattern to the body of the cup.
The cup has a scrolled shaped handle and with relief moulded straps with gilt decoration to the top and bottom terminal. The saucer is decorated with a celeste blue enamelled band and hand painted with three bird panels. In between the bird panels there is raised gilt Greek key pattern and also the the rim edge.The cup is marked to the base with a blue enamelled pattern number G268. The saucer is also marked to the base with a blue enamelled G268 pattern number, with an impressed Minton mark and a year cipher for 1867. SIZE : The cup measures 6.6 cm high and 7.1 cm in diameter (excluding handle).
The saucer measures 14.2 cm in diameter. Weighs 235 g before packing. Gilt band around the foot is worn about 1/3 of the way round and has a brown manufactures paint mark as in picture 11. There is also some small areas of gilt ware to the two thin bands to the top and bottom of the bird panels and some very minor age related gilt ware that does not detract.The saucer is in very good condition bar a couple of very minor age related gilt ware that does not detract. Both pieces have no chips cracks or restoration and both ring when tapped.
